Ethiopian Black Obsidian and Antique Silver Pendant Necklace

Boldly graduated natural Ethiopian black obsidian beads form a dramatic setting for this substantial antique silver-alloy pendant from northern Ethiopia. Ranging from approximately 13.5 to 16 mm, the highly polished obsidian beads display a deep, mirror-like luster, punctuated by aged silver spacer beads.

The rectangular pendant is richly ornamented with twisted-wire borders, geometric detailing, applied corner motifs, and a central floral medallion. Three suspended spherical ornaments lend gentle movement to the composition. Its naturally aged surface and time-softened patina preserve the character of the original Ethiopian metalwork.

Measuring approximately 28 inches long, the necklace has an impressive presence while allowing the pendant to rest gracefully against the upper torso.
